After Aedes albopictus and Aedes koreicus, a new species of black and white mosquito has invaded Italy.
Austrian entomologist Dr Bernhard Seidel found some specimens of Aedes japonicus in the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia in July 2015. Colleagues at the Parasitology Laboratory of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie, together with Entostudio, investigated the presence of this mosquito and found larvae in Pontebba, in the province of Udine. The place where the new species was found is already infested by Aedes albopictus and is very close to towns positive for Aedes koreicus; it will be very interesting to see what happens.
